So I checked out my youtube page (www.youtube.com/natalisetv) today and noticed that there were some people who saw the video and thought I was "setting Asian people back 100 years." I kind of had to laugh. I obviously have my opinions on this, but what did you guys think when you watched the video? Did you get the humor right off the bat? Did it take a minute? Do you think I'm racist??? LOL.
i think people should listen to the song and understand what your message is before watching the video.i like the video i chuckled, ironic that there was "THE EYE" poster in the background (did you plan that?) oh and i think i did see Elle Tan putting on a white hood on (J/K)
OMG. I can go on for days about this. You already know how I feel about the video by virtue of working with me on my film. People, it's called humor. It's called shattering stereotypes in a constructive and artistic way rather than say, rioting or going on a shooting spree or standing around protesting. Did that person even listen to the lyrics? We need to be really careful and conscious about choosing our battles. An Asian missing the point of this humor and calling you racist is "setting Asian people back 100 years." I'm not saying we all should blindly support each other (there are some fools out there), but know when to shut up and support and know when to stand up and fight. You know where I stand. Racist, my ass. OK, this is Jasonyerface stepping off soapbox for now. Keep on keeping on, Natalise.
Thanks for your comments, Jason...and everybody else, too. I, of course, agree. But I think this is really interesting though that people don't "get it." It makes me think that perspectives on race and racism especially in America are really skewed.

Waaaaat in no way did I think it was racist, maybe a bit stereotypical, but it was in good humor! Plus how can you be RACIST towards your OWN race? That's ridiculous.
I Think the video was awsome!! The best moment of it is when your silouette dance in the red and just after when Ellen Tan says Hi in front of the hollywood Lol!!So...I think that the humor was really good and easy to understand and of course I don't Think you are racist! Why would you be? Like Ben said:how can you be RACIST towards your OWN race?
The only thing is that the video made me kind of jealous cause in the video the weather was hot and sunny while at my house in southern Québec snow was falling from the sky,we had to were coats, the grass was *recouvert* of snow and lots of it and the weather was cold!! But it's Ok now because i'ts almost all gone and today we didn't have to were coats :D Lol!!!
The video is pretty much tongue and cheek and somewhat campy. I don't think you are racist but I do think you must have realized that it was going to press some buttons whether positive or negative and you have succeeded. The reactions are just that: reactions
Some are positive and some are negative but they are giving you some buzz and hopefully makes people more curious about your music and who you are so they will seek out your music and your new upcoming album. Nothing to really worry about. In fact the negative comments left by posters will obviously make people even more curious to listen to see what got the individual or individuals all fired up in the first place. So in the final analysis it is a win win situation for you.
So here is the latest on this... been getting lots of questions from people about my thoughts on what has been happening, and I answered candidly. Check it out --
